The food pyramid

Eating and drinking with pleasure and enjoyment, and in a healthy way - easier said than done! The often complicated, sometimes contradictory recommendations often make it difficult to understand the essentials and implement them in everyday life. Not a day goes by without people finding out about "healthy eating" through the media. Surveys show that knowledge about a balanced diet is certainly available. What is often lacking, however, is the ability to translate this knowledge into appropriate behavior, i.e. into everyday eating habits.
The food pyramid helps you to do this. It provides a framework that you can fill according to your own needs, tastes and habits without making any major sacrifices.

The model shows what a balanced daily diet can look like. Each symbol stands for a food group, for example the carrot for vegetables, the ear of corn for bread, cereals and side dishes. Each building block represents a portion. And the traffic light colors green, yellow and red provide an initial orientation for the day when selecting foods.

A major advantage of the food pyramid is that it is versatile. Its simple structure makes it suitable for children and young people as well as adults. Because the measure for a portion can be your own hand. The portions therefore grow with the child and the food pyramid takes account of the fact that nutritional requirements change with age: Small children, small hands - big "children", big hands.
