Poster exhibition: Is the party always right? The SED in everyday life in the GDR.

Is the party always right? The SED in everyday life in the GDR.

An exhibition by Federal Foundation for the Study of the Communist Dictatorship in Germany by Stefan Wolle

Do you work in the field of education or are you involved in teaching or extracurricular learning?

Then the exhibition “Is the party always right? The SED in everyday life in the GDR.” is just right for you and your institution! It is an easily accessible educational tool: informative and low-barrier at the same time.

The exhibition shows how deeply the Socialist Unity Party of Germany intervened in people’s lives. It illustrates that the SED was much more than a political organization: it determined politics, the economy, and the judiciary as well as private everyday life. The exhibition addresses the contradictions of life under dictatorship between conviction and conformity, idealism and opportunism.

The exhibition contains 20 panels and can be ordered as a set of DIN A1 posters for a small fee. Other formats and language editions are also available, as well as detailed educational materials free of charge.

“Is the party always right? The SED in everyday life in the GDR.” can now be pre-ordered and will be available for your educational work from March 2026.
