The event
We warmly invite you (primary school teachers and teachers of grades 5/6) to an exciting, hands on workshop where the Calliope and the Callibot take center stage! Together, they form a fully capable robot equipped with a variety of sensors from line and ultrasonic sensors to wheel encoders, a compass, and a gyroscope. In this workshop, you will explore how these tools allow the robot to navigate autonomously through arenas inspired by RoboCup Junior challenges.
What to expect
Experience a practical and playful introduction to robotics using the Calliope and Callibot. Step by step, you will learn:
Workshop activities
- bring the Callibot into motion
- program the Callibot to follow predefined paths (square, circle)
- control the robot with sensors - stop at obstacles
- stop at black lines - keep the robot inside boundaries (walls or floor markings)
- follow a simple line
Optional advanced challenges
- follow more complex lines (corners, gaps, obstacle avoidance, line recovery using encoders)
- navigate a maze using encoders, compass, ultrasonic sensor, and touch sensor
- track and follow an object: use a directional IR sensor to follow a ball, supported by floor and ultrasonic sensors
Between workshop sessions
Robots will be moving autonomously in three RoboCup inspired arenas. Visitors can explore the robots and their programs, ask questions, and discover how far robotics can be developed, there are no limits!
We encourage visitors to watch RoboCup competitions at RoboCup German Open 2026 (also hall 9) and learn directly from experienced teams and their robots.
