Deutscher Bildungsserver am DIPF

The German Education Server (DBS) is the central guide to the education system in Germany. It offers all interested parties access to reliable, high-quality information and internet resources – quickly, comprehensively, and free of charge. As a meta-server, it refers to Internet resources provided by, among others, the federal and state governments, the European Union, universities, schools, state institutes, research and service institutions.

Its range of topics covers all levels of education: from elementary education to school, vocational training, adult/continuing education, higher education, and educational research. Cross-cutting topics such as special education, inclusion, and social pedagogy are also covered. General information on the German education system and education in an international context rounds out the offering.

The German Education Server works together with the state education servers and the FWU Institute for Film and Image. The Education Server includes other partner portals such as OERinfo, the online magazine Bildung + Innovation, the InfoWeb Weiterbildung (IWWB), Lesen in Deutschland, and the specialist portal for school libraries.

The DBS magazine “Bildung + Innovation,” Lesen in Deutschland, and OERinfo provide editorial coverage of current topics and educational policy debates. The German Education Server is a joint service of the federal and state governments. Its office is coordinated by the DIPF | Leibniz Institute for Research and Information in Education in Frankfurt am Main and Berlin, www.dipf.de.

The DIPF contributes to overcoming challenges in education through empirical educational research, digital infrastructure, and targeted knowledge transfer. With its knowledge of education, the institute supports science, politics, and practice in the field of education – for the benefit of society. In 2026, the DIPF will celebrate its 75th anniversary.
