Klasse2000 - strong and healthy in elementary school
Children should grow up healthy and become strong, self-confident individuals – that is the goal of Klasse2000, Germany's largest teaching program for health promotion, violence prevention, and addiction prevention. It accompanies children from grades 1 to 4, strengthens their health and life skills, and covers the following topics in approximately 15 lessons per year:• Healthy eating and drinking
• Exercise and relaxation
• Liking yourself and having friends
• Solving problems and conflicts
• Critical thinking and saying no, e.g., to alcohol and smoking
A special feature is the collaboration between teachers and specially trained Klasse2000 health promoters. Two to three times per school year, they introduce new topics in class, which the teachers then explore in greater depth using prepared lesson plans. Teacher training is not required.
A variety of methods, games, visits from health promoters, and interesting materials such as breathing trainers, pocket brains, and emotion books get children excited about the topic of health. Klasse2000 also offers digital and differentiated teaching materials as well as information for parents in simple language.
The program is continuously updated. Its positive effect on eating and exercise habits during elementary school and on the consumption of alcohol, nicotine, and cannabis in adolescence has been confirmed by longitudinal studies.
The program is run by a non-profit organization that relies on donations and grants, primarily in the form of sponsorships for individual classes (€250 per class per school year), for example, from parent-teacher associations, Lions Clubs, health insurance companies, businesses, and parents.
The program begins in the second half of first grade. Participation requires a sponsorship agreement, at least for the first year.
