Klimahaus Bremerhaven – the ‘love letter to the planet’ (Sir Bob Geldof)
Over seven million guests have visited Klimahaus Bremerhaven since it opened in 2019, making it one of the most visited educational venues in Germany. What's more, almost 100 per cent of visitors recommend it to others.
The centrepiece of the exhibition is the ‘journey’ along the eighth degree of longitude across five continents to nine locations – from the desert to Antarctica. Visitors experience temperatures, smells and sounds as if they were there.
Four permanent exhibitions show the topic of climate from different perspectives – making the Klimahaus unique worldwide. In addition to the ‘journey’, three other areas complement the offering:
- ‘Extreme weather’: In the new scientifically based experience area, visitors experience and understand extreme weather and its consequences. - ‘Perspectives’: Visitors can trace the history of climate change from its natural causes to man-made climate change and its possible future. - ‘World Future Lab’: an interactive area for world savers
The building with its glass façade is a landmark of Bremerhaven and currently adorns an official two-euro coin. As a UNESCO-designated educational institution, the Klimahaus shapes the science city of Bremerhaven. In 2020, it received the international Climate Smart Award (‘Museum Oscar’). The current patron is Carsten Schneider, Federal Minister for the Environment, Climate Protection, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN). Since 1 January 2026, the Klimahaus Bremerhaven has been a non-profit limited liability company.
