Innovative degree program in mathematics and physics education & the Marille model school

The innovative degree program “Mathematics and Physics in Combination” has been offered at the University of Potsdam since the winter semester of 2020 as a study program with a fixed combination of subjects and the qualification goal of a Master of Education (equivalent to a state examination). The advantages of this program, which is unique in Germany, will be presented at the booth. In addition, some of the experiment-based learning environments for interdisciplinary teaching developed by the graduates will be available to try out. These learning environments have been evaluated, are ready for use, and are available free of charge.

With the EXIST start-up grant, the BMWE is promoting the innovative concept of the Marielle model school, which opened its doors in Berlin at the start of the 2025/26 school year as an approved all-day school. It is a model school for sustainable education. Guided by the question of what contemporary and good education can look like, the team members traveled to Sweden, Finland, Russia, Estonia, Israel, Malaysia, China, and Hong Kong to gain insights into schools there and thus incorporate innovations and ideas from a wide variety of school types into the concept. Since then, the team of educational scientists and teachers has been working with experts from academia and practice to develop its vision for a future-oriented school.
The Marille School initially offers space for 15 first graders and will be expanded into an inclusive community school with 13 years of schooling. It will initially be privately funded and will offer open all-day schooling with after-school care. All German school qualifications in the state of Berlin can be obtained there.
