didacta 2026 theme and key topics

Everything in Transition. Education in Focus.

didacta 2026 presents its central guiding theme: “Everything in Transition. Education in Focus” - a motto that succinctly reflects the pressing challenges of our time.

In an era of technological upheaval, societal change, and global crises, quality education is essential for a resilient society and a robust democracy.

From March 10 to 14, 2026, didacta in Cologne will demonstrate how education provides orientation, fosters resilience, and strengthens democratic discourse. As the largest trade fair for education, it brings together experts from politics, business, science, and society. For five days, everything revolves around concrete solutions, practical impulses, and innovative approaches for high-quality education.

At the heart of the event are four key topics that address the core demands of a changing world and show how education can respond:

1. Future and Foundational Competencies

What skills do people need to act confidently in the future? didacta focuses on competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, cultural understanding, and democratic education—fundamental building blocks for social participation and individual agency.

2. Health and Well-Being

A healthy learning environment is essential for successful education. Key areas include mental health, resilience, physical activity, nutrition, and raising awareness for psychological stress in school and educational settings.

3. Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence

Digital transformation is profoundly changing learning processes. didacta highlights the opportunities and challenges of digital tools, AI applications, media literacy, and digital ethics—with the overarching goal of creating accessible entry points and equal opportunities.

4. Education for Sustainable Development (ESD)

Sustainability is a central task for the future. didacta showcases approaches for educational work that fosters responsibility, makes global interconnections visible, and embeds the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

With the guiding theme “Everything in Transition. Education in Focus”, didacta 2026 sends a strong message: Education is the key to strengthening democracy, building future competencies, and shaping the major questions of our time with expertise and confidence.
